Silver City, NM -- The Western New Mexico volleyball team made its first and only season in the Heartland Conference a good one as it wrapped up the regular season Saturday with a 30-26, 26-30, 30-23, 30-21 victory of St. Mary's in San Antonio.
The Mustangs (24-4, 11-1 HC) took more than three games to win matches only three times during the conference season in taking their 11 wins, and will head into next week's conference championship as the number one seed.
WNMU swept St. Mary's Friday to wrap up their last road swing of the regular season.
Stephanie Higgins (Biggsville, IL/) knocked home 21 kills Saturday to lead WNMU, but suffered 15 errors. Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) was a bit more efficient, recording 19 kills with just four errors. Janiel McNeil also reached double-figures in kills with 13.
Jessica Lindgren (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola High School) led the defensive effort with 20 digs.
The Mustangs return to action next weekend in Austin for the Heartland Conference Championship.
